The East Hawaii Chapter of the Hawaii Ballroom Dance Association (HBDA) invites the community to its 23rd Anniversary Ball on Saturday, May 26, at 6:30 p.m. at the YWCA on Haili Street in downtown Hilo. The ball includes dinner and dancing until 9:30 p.m.

A ticket, which costs $15, can be reserved by calling 936-2157. Tickets may be purchased Wednesdays at the Waiakea High School cafeteria from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Ticket sales will end May 16.

The ball theme will be “Bailando con Romancia,” which translates to “Dancing with Romance.” Chapter members and instructors will be performing a very romantic bolero exhibition, choreographed by HBDA rotating instructors Mel and Cynthia Chow.

A highlight of the evening will be the presentation of the Kaya Award, named for Hisao and Hagie Kaya, who were among the founders of the Hilo Chapter, to the most enthusiastic new chapter member.

Officers of the chapter for 2012 are Tina Beleno, president; Russell Kaneko, vice president; Lisa Javier, secretary, and Imai Namahoe, treasurer.

The East Hawaii Chapter is a member of the Hawaii Ballroom Dance Association, which has 14 chapters on Oahu and one on Maui, as well.
